Duncan signs with Fortec Motorsport
Duncan Tappy’s dream drive for 2007 became a reality this week when he signed a deal with 2006 champions Fortec Motorsport. This will be the 22-year-old West Ewell-based driver’s second season competing in the closely-fought Formula Renault UK Series.
Duncan’s career is progressing to plan. Following his outstanding debut year in Formula Ford in 2005 with 13 victories, including the prestigious Formula Ford Festival, and a learning year in Formula Renault UK with Jamun Racing, Duncan is moving to Fortec Motorsport to gain from a four-car team and a wealth of car and championship experience.
Since the end of the 2006 season Duncan has tested with teams and been considering options from several teams but the Fortec seat was the one he set his sights on. Having sealed the drive, he is testing with the team at Oulton Park in Cheshire today.
Fortec Motorsport is one of the country’s leading motorsport teams running cars in series such as Formula BMW, Formula 3, and World Series by Renault. Fortec has six years of Formula Renault experience including winning the championship in 2002, 2004 and 2006.
Duncan said: “I’m really pleased to be signing with the 2006 champions. Fortec is a very professional outfit and I’m really looking forward to racing with them. In testing, not only was the car very good but the team were very friendly and it was a great working atmosphere.
“Going to a four car team and having team mates and data to compare is going to help me improve so that I’m driving at my maximum ability. I’m optimistic of a successful 2007 and appreciate the confidence that Fortec and my sponsors have in me. I’m just ready to get out on track and drive my best now to prove that I’m worth that commitment.”
Dave Moore, Fortec Motorsport Team Manager, added: “I’ve been chasing Duncan for a long time. I watched him in Formula Ford and rated him then for his consistency and speed. He’s a good signing. He’s going to be consistently up there and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be vying for the Championship. He’ll be a real asset to the team.”
Duncan’s first event of the season is at Brands Hatch on March 31st and April 1st.
